As we wrap up what has been a very busy but successful term at Clontarf Beach SHS, it's a great time to reflect on the many achievements and moments of growth we've experienced together. Once again this term has provided so many academic milestones, sporting successes, cultural events and community engagement. Our school has continued to thrive with energy and purpose. The hard work and commitment shown by students, staff, and families have been outstanding, and we thank everyone for their ongoing contribution. We now look forward to a well-earned break and the chance to recharge for the term ahead.
As we look ahead to the coming term, it’s important that students take the time to get themselves prepared for success. This means setting clear goals, staying organised, and coming back ready to engage fully in all aspects of school life. Whether it’s catching up on reading, planning assessment timelines, or simply returning with a positive mindset, these small steps can make a big difference. Success doesn’t happen by chance—it comes from preparation, focus, and determination. Let’s all start the new term strong and ready to make it count.
Please note there will be a minor change to the school timetable due to adjustments required to meet the industrial requirements of Education Queensland employees. This change ensures we remain compliant with staffing and workload provisions and reflects our ongoing commitment to supporting both staff wellbeing and departmental guidelines. While the shift is small, we appreciate the understanding and flexibility of our students, staff, and families as we implement this necessary adjustment. Effectively, from Semester 2, the school day will now be starting at 8.25am with a warning bell at 8.20am.
We look forward to seeing each and every child back at Clontarf Beach SHS on 14 July, after a refreshing break. Please keep safe and well. Should your child not be able to return as expected please contact the school absence line on 3480 4760 on the day of the absence and state your child’s name and the reason for the absence. An email or a medical certificate/letter brought to Student Services the first day of return is also acceptable and appreciated. Unfortunately, despite starting the year well with respect to student attendance we have seen a decline in the lead up to these holidays. Our goal for attendance in 2025 is 85% attendance and 100% of absences explained. We appreciate your support in this matter. Every day counts at Clontarf Beach SHS State High.

Clontarf Beach SS Under 8s Day
This week, a group of our enthusiastic students proudly represented our school at the local Under 8s Day celebration held at Clontarf Beach SS. With bright smiles and positive energy, our students helped run fun Science experiments and arts activities, led energetic sports games, and even taught a few dance moves to the younger children! Thank you to all involved.

Senior Ancient History Excursion
The Senior Ancient History class took advantage of the visiting Ancient Egyptian exhibition at the Queensland Museum on Friday 2nd of May. 24 students explored artefacts from the Rijksmuseum Van Oudheden, the antiquities museum of the Netherlands.
The Discovering Ancient Egypt exhibition had an extensive collection of artefacts relating to the funerary practices of the time. There were also 5 mummies in the collection for students to see how bodies were preserved.
Students were fascinated by the variety of artefacts. Student’s also explored other exhibits at the Museum and were surprised to find an item that their teacher owned in the museum, showing that not all history is so old.

CrossFit for Year 7 Sports Extension Students
The Year 7 Sports Extension Squad wrapped up their 5th CrossFit session of the semester with a high-energy tug of war, followed by an intense AMRAP workout featuring dumbbell squats, dumbbell clean and press, and hanging knee raises. This session marked the end of an incredible semester of physical and mental growth. We’re proud of the effort and progress our students have made and are already looking forward to the gains and goals of next semester. A huge thank you to Brett and the team at CrossFit Moreton Bay for continuing to provide such an amazing opportunity for our students!

On 13 May, a group of Year 10 History students travelled into the city for a powerful and thought-provoking day of historical exploration. We began at the newly established Holocaust Museum, where students engaged with a wealth of historical sources and exhibitions. A highlight of the visit was a presentation from a Holocaust survivor, who shared his personal story leading up to and during the horrors of Hitler’s regime.

After a lunch break in the city, we continued our journey with a walk to ANZAC Square and Memorial Galleries. There, students were given a private tour of the memorial site, taking in its many statues, plaques, and commemorations that honour Australian service members.
The group demonstrated maturity and respect throughout the day, engaging thoughtfully with the sensitive material. We look forward to taking the next group of Year 10 History students to the Holocaust Museum on 7 August. Keep an eye out for more details in the coming term.

Teaching Teachers to Weld at the CBSHS Welding Club
One of the four versions of the CBSHS welding club is a teacher only, “upskilling” welding club. Upskilling is when a teacher moves into a new teaching area and takes on Professional Development (PD) and other training in the area they’re not currently trained in.
Tanya Aylward is a hospitality teacher at Bracken Ridge SHS and is upskilling to start teaching engineering at her skill. For part of her PD, she’s been attending the Clontarf Beach Upskilling Welding Club. This is 1 & ½ hours before school every Tuesday. Although the program is called a “welding” club, it also includes general metal fabrication as well.

It has been a busy time in the Arts dept with the production of our musical.
A Show to Remember: Celebrating the Success of “High School Musical”
We are thrilled to share the incredible success of this year’s school musical! After months of rehearsals, dedication, and creative energy, our talented students brought the stage to life with a performance that truly wowed the audience.
From the dazzling choreography to the powerful vocals and heartfelt acting, every student involved gave it their all—and it showed. The standing ovation at the end of both nights performance, was a well-deserved tribute to the hard work and passion that went into every scene.
We couldn’t be prouder of our performers, backstage crew, and staff who supported the production. Their teamwork, resilience, and commitment to excellence made this an unforgettable experience for the entire school community.
Congratulations to everyone involved—you’ve made us incredibly proud!

This term, our Year 7 Summit students have been working on a project in their History, Mathematics, Science and English class. They were tasked with proposing an innovation that would improve water efficiency and quality at Clontarf Beach SHS. The class went on an excursion to Wivenhoe Dam to see how water is collected, processed and distributed in SEQ before completing a water audit here at CBSHS. Last week they presented their proposals to Ms Power and Ms Pfingst in a Shark Tank style competition. Congratulations to our winning innovation Smart Swipe, proposed by Jarrah, Amity, Mya and Namsai.

Year 11 and 12 Modern History Excursion
On Wednesday, the year 11 and 12 Modern History students took a trip into the State Library of Queensland at South Brisbane. They were introduced to the State Library collection and study spaces available for free, taught some invaluable research strategies by a librarian, and given insight into the vast scope of materials kept at the library (approximately 47km worth!).
Some students even went and got themselves a library card, much to Miss Quine's delight!

CBSHS Choreography Competition
Year 10 Fashion Students have been learning about the art of Millinery this term. We have been fortunate enough to be working with a local Milliner, Maree Starkey, from Designz by Maree in Newport. Maree invited us into her studio at the beginning of our journey to share her wonderful creations and inspire our students. She then visited us to give professional, personalised feedback to each of our students on their work. Today they shared their final projects. Well done team, your hard work looks amazing!

Hospital Excursion for Cert III Health Students
On Tuesday 10th June, year 11 and 12 Cert III Health students took part in an excursion to the Princess Alexandra Hospital. We were the first school invited to the hospital this year!
Session one consisted of three nurses talking to us all about kidneys and their important function.
In Session two, students actually walked to the Renal unit and visited patients who were having Dialysis. Students got to see how the machines took blood from the body, filtered it and then put it back into the body. There were a few queasy moments, but it was amazing to see first hand how well the health system in Australia is.
In this ward, we met a number of inspirational people, including Alex, who was awaiting a kidney transplant (having already had a heart transplant, cancer and a flesh-eating disease). Alex showed us all optimism and resilience, talking happily about how his challenges are just a part of his life now.

In session three, students were lucky enough to meet Jordan, who was a 26-year old liver transplant recipient. Jordan told us about his health journey, surgeries and the recovery process.
To finish off the day, we had a Q&A with nurses and Jordan, before walking back to the bus and heading home.
We were commended on the behaviour and interest of our students.
It was a fantastic opportunity for our Health classes.

On Wednesday 25th June, Colourful Connections hosted a Pride Month Celebration during Lunch 1. All LGBTQIA+ students, staff and allies were invited to a dynamic celebration with music, cake and lots of colour.
The origins of Pride Month stretch back to the Stonewall Riots of 1969 and the protest marches that occurred the following year in commemoration. Over time, protest marches became marches of recognition. Nowadays, Pride Month is an opportunity to celebrate queer identity, culture and community.
Many thanks go out to all the people who made this wonderful event possible. To Alex, one of our student leaders who suggested the idea and assisted in the planning and preparation. To Bel, who came in last minute to capture some special memories of the event. To Ange, who provided extra goodies for us to share. And to all the wonderful students and staff who supported the event – thank you for coming together to make CBSHS an inclusive space for the LGBTQIA+ community.
Ali Guijarro & Peta Guijarro.

Year 11 Aquatic Practices Aquariums
"This term myself, Jake and my classmate Benjamin designed a fish tank. This Fish Tank is deigned to mimic a natural freshwater environment such as lakes and billabongs. Having this allows the organisms to thrive as it replicates the natural habitats including temperature, lighting and food sources which leads to lower stress and illness. Overall it creates a stable and balanced ecosystem for the fresh inhabitants." - Jake, year 11 student
