One of the four versions of the CBSHS welding club is a teacher only, “upskilling” welding club. Upskilling is when a teacher moves into a new teaching area and takes on Professional Development (PD) and other training in the area they’re not currently trained in.

Tanya Aylward is a hospitality teacher at Bracken Ridge SHS and is upskilling to start teaching engineering at her skill. For part of her PD, she’s been attending the Clontarf Beach Upskilling Welding Club. This is 1 & ½ hours before school every Tuesday. Although the program is called a “welding” club, it also includes general metal fabrication as well.
