- What's On
As we wrap up the first half of the term, it’s a great time to reflect on the many successes we've seen across our school community. The term has been running smoothly, with strong engagement from students and staff alike. Classrooms have been filled with energy and a genuine enthusiasm for learning, and it’s been wonderful to see the continued commitment to academic progress and wellbeing.
We’re also incredibly excited about the upcoming school musical. The students and staff have been working exceptionally hard during rehearsals, and in preparing sets and costumes . The dedication and community they’ve shown is truly inspiring. From the performers and backstage crew to the staff and volunteers supporting the production, it’s shaping up to be a memorable event that will showcase the creativity and talent within our school. Make sure you get your tickets!
Sport has also played a huge part in making this term so vibrant. We’ve seen impressive levels of participation across a wide range of activities and competitions, with many students proudly representing our school in so many different sports tournaments and events. Their teamwork, sportsmanship, and perseverance can be credited to your support and the coaching provided by our wonderful staff. We’re proud of all they’ve achieved.
The exciting part is that we’re only halfway through the term, with so much more still to come. There’s a real sense of momentum and anticipation as we look ahead to the remainder of the term—not to mention all that the second half of the year holds. From upcoming excursions and special events to continued learning milestones and community celebrations, there’s plenty for students, and staff to look forward to. It’s shaping up to be a dynamic and rewarding year across all areas of school life.

This week our Year 12 boys competed in the Metro Futsal Finals.
Results were:
Clontarf Vs St Peter Claver: 6-1 loss
Clontarf vs Loganlea: 3-1 win
Clontarf vs Stretton: 4-2 loss
Despite narrowly missing finals, the boys placed 3rd in a competitive pool.
To have beaten Redcliffe and then North Lakes in knockout rounds just to make this event was a huge achievement! All involved should feel very proud.

Our Yarning Circle Becomes Green!

The scoreboard might not have gone our way in Game One of the 2025 State of Origin series, but we still enjoyed wearing our jerseys to raise funds for charity this Wednesday.

Our school musical team joined in the fun wearing their wildcats jerseys.

This term, Year 7 is studying Biology in Science classes. Students are learning about ecosystems, classification and dichotomous keys.

As part of our exploration into living things, we had the privilege of going on a field trip within our stunning community. Students collected data and used it as part of their assessment to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of our local wildlife and waterways.

About National Reconciliation Week
National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. The dates for NRW remain the same each year; 27 May to 3 June. These dates commemorate two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey – the successful 1967 referendum, and the High Court Mabo decision respectively.
Reconciliation must live in the hearts, minds and actions of all Australians as we move forward, creating a nation strengthened by respectful relationships between the wider Australian community, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
We all have a role to play when it comes to reconciliation, and in playing our part we collectively build relationships and communities that value Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, histories, cultures, and futures.
The National Reconciliation Week (NRW) 2025 theme, Bridging Now to Next, reflects the ongoing connection between past, present and future. Bridging Now to Next calls on all Australians to step forward together, to look ahead and continue the push forward as past lessons guide us. In the #NRW2025 theme artwork created by Kalkadoon woman Bree Buttenshaw, native plants − which are known for regenerating after fire and thriving through adversity − symbolise our collective strength and the possibilities of renewal. This is a time for growth, reflection, and commitment to walking together.

Certificate II in Automotive Vocational Preparation
Do you have a student currently in Year 11 or 12 who is interested in a trade career and wanting to leave school with a pre-apprenticeship course completed? CBSHS is now taking applications for its annual Certificate II in Automotive Vocational Preparation course run here onsite through our partnership with RTO Tactile Learning. It can be a stepping stone towards careers in Automotive Mechanical including Heavy and Light Vehicle, Marine, Motorcycle or Racing; or could be used for personal knowledge for basic maintenance and servicing of your own vehicle in the future; or as an alternative subject pathway instead of typical school subjects. There are very limited places still available.
- It will run every Friday all day and will be a mix of online theory and onsite practical (students will work on real cars)
- Duration is 1 semester – starting Week 2 Term 3 and finishing in November (so Year 12s can enrol as well)
- Students cannot participate if already enrolled in a VETiS funded certificate course unless willing to pay fee for service ($2000)
- Students gain 4 QCE points if they successfully complete the course as well as the completion of the pre-vocational course for a mechanical apprenticeship
- The students who want to use their one off access to VETiS funding will make this course free of charge

Understanding the NCCD – Parent Fact Sheet Now Available
The below Parent Fact Sheet is designed to help you understand the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD), a national initiative that supports schools in identifying and meeting the individual needs of students with disability.
This data helps ensure all students receive the adjustments they need to access and participate in education on the same basis as their peers. Our school will be submitting data for the NCCD at the end of this term, so we encourage you to read the attached fact sheet for more information.

The Premier's Anzac Prize is an annual award for students and teachers that offers an exciting opportunity to delve further into the understanding of the Anzac legacy. It is proudly presented in partnership with RSL Queensland and with the support of State Library of Queensland.
Students from all regions and educational sectors in Queensland have the opportunity to develop their research skills, attend workshops and participate in community events in preparation for a 2-week tour to Europe to visit historical sites and key World War I (WWI) memorials. The tour culminates with attendance at the nationally televised Anzac Dawn Service near Villers-Bretonneux on the Western Front—a site where Australian service people sacrificed so much during WWI.

Year 12 Cert III Health Ozcare Visit
Students have just started participating in a weekly visit to the Ozcare Nursing home in Clontarf. The purpose of our visits is for students to experience some ‘real – life’ involvement with the elderly. After a hot 15-minute walk down the road, we were greeted by some very happy residents who shared some lemonade with us.

Students spread themselves out amongst the residents, happily chatting to them about their current lives and their past. There were stories about families, occupations, sporting successes, immigration, bar fridges beside the bed and more.Students thoroughly enjoyed talking with their elderly ‘clients’ and will continue to grow more confidence as we continue this lovely community partnership.

IN THE ZONE: Interschool Sport Heats Up at Clontarf!
We’ve had an action-packed season with some incredible highlights from our Interschool Sports Program!
One of the standout moments was hosting Redcliffe State High School in our gym for the Futsal Metro Final Play-offs. The match brought fierce competition and outstanding sportsmanship to our home court. Our Senior Open Boys started strong, leading 6–1 at halftime. Despite a strong comeback from Redcliffe in the second half, our boys held their ground to secure a thrilling 9–7 victory.
Riding the momentum, the team then faced North Lakes State College, delivering another dominant performance and claiming a 10–5 win, securing their spot at the Metro Finals.
At the Metro Finals, our boys represented Clontarf with pride and intensity, going head-to-head with some of the top schools in the region—St Peter Claver College, Stretton College, and Loganlea SHS. After a series of tough matches, they finished with an impressive third place, showcasing their resilience, teamwork, and determination throughout the day.
Meanwhile, our Year 7/8 Girls Volleyball team put in a gutsy performance in their Metro Finals Play-off against The Gap State High School, a volleyball excellence program. In a tightly contested match, the girls narrowly lost in straight sets (2–0), showing great promise, skill, and heart until the very last point. A brilliant effort from our junior athletes!
The atmosphere in the gym during the play-offs was electric. Students packed the mezzanine to cheer on the teams, and the energy and support created an unforgettable experience.

A huge congratulations to all of our District Finalists who competed in the Gala Day Finals held in Week 4:

In Year 10 Health this term, we have been discussing the Dimensions of Health – Physical, Emotional, Social, Spiritual and Mental.
We have looked at each dimension in details as well as ways to advance them.
One of the things we did for our physical health, was to put on our special goggles which enables the person to ‘see’ through the lens of someone who is under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.
Students were given challenges to achieve (such as catching a ball, doing up shoelaces, walking up / down stairs) whilst wearing the goggles. It made for a very funny but eye-opening lesson.
We have also focused on GEM which stands for Gratitude, Empathy and Mindfulness. Students have been reflecting on what they are grateful for each day and how they can put themselves in someone else’s shoes.

Finally, to be mindful, we have undergone a couple of very relaxing, guided meditations. We may or may not have had someone fall asleep…..
